About The Zagami Meteorite & The Collector's Cube

"Planet Mars: The Collector's Cube" (pictured at left) is 1/10 carat of the planet Mars, sealed in a sterile pharmaceutical vial and suspended inside a 2.5-inch Lucite cube.

Scientists throughout the world concur that fragments of Mars were catapulted into space when asteroids slammed into the Martian surface millions of years ago.

A few of these fragments fell to Earth. Very few. Of the 21,000 meteorites known to exist, only 14 are from Mars, and the total weight of all these meteorites is less than 175 pounds! In effect, Mars is among the rarest of substances found on Earth -- and 90% of all Martian meteorites will forever remain in the world's finest museums and research centers.

Your vial contains Zagami—one of the most sought after meteorites in the world. As reported in Science (#267, pp. 1981-1984) and The New York Times (March 31, 1995, p. A16), researchers concluded that Zagami was from Mars when the gas trapped in tiny pockets within its matrix was found to match the composition of the Martian atmosphere—as determined by NASA's Viking lander in 1976. And that's not all that Martian meteorites contain: in 1996, NASA scientists electrified the world with the stunning announcement that another meteorite from Mars, ALH-84001, was found to match the composition of the Martian atmosphere.

The specimens of Zagami offered here originate from a one pound mass whose provenance and authenticity are documented by NASA in its 1996 "Mars Meteorite Compendium."
